Painted Faces

“I don’t think makeup is rocket science or a cure for cancer. I still love it.” Cindy Crawford.

I have a problem with cosmetics. The problem being that they are taking over my life. I’ve had this problem from when I was fifteen and worked in the perfumery department at Debenhams. Perfume companies used to send in about ten tester bottles every time there was a new fragrance, and a whole heap of samplers to give out to customers. For the few years I worked there I bought tester bottles of all the fancy perfumes for £1 in the staff canteen, and always had the samplers in my bag.

Then I got a job with Clarins. Girls, if you want to work for a cosmetic company, pick Clarins. 8 free products a month; 6 skincare, 2 makeup. I had fancy bath crèmes and shower gels, expensive skin quenching body creams and enough foundation to fulfil my makeup addiction.

And this is why I am now overrun with the stuff. I can’t help but let the ladies put the new cream on the back of my hand or give me a touch of colour as I pass through the cosmetics department, and my tastes are expensive. I love Clarins tonic range, and Lancome moisturisers. I adore YSL mascara and crave Chanel nail polish. The problem is I then buy them, and now I have a whole drawer that used to be full of exboyfriends football shirts, that hold host to my eye shadows, brushes, spare mascaras and multitudes of exfoliators and masks, lotions and potions.

When I moved in with exboyfriend I learnt to curb my spending (its no good having lovely skin if you are starving) so I now know all the alternatives that you can buy in the self service section of Boots that are just as good, but every now and then a darling friend (usually Anna) will buy me a lovely gift like Origins Ginger Bath Souffle, and I will be teleported back to the days when I was pampered and fragrant.

My favorite make-up must have is Urban Decays’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion in SIN! It keeps my shadow on ALL day no matter what! I’ve gone through phases over the years between wearing & not wearing make up… but I truly feel better when I’ve got my “face” on. A tad bit envious of the gals who can go make-up free & look amazing!

im an Amy Winehouse liquid liner kinda girl. Im just so used to it that im surprised how I look when I have no makeup on. I think i scare small children and animals!! Try Maybelline falsies mascara – its just as good as the expensive ones.

I know exactly what you mean I love make-up and cosmetics, I’m partial to Clarins hand cream and Sanctuary at Boots body souffle cream. It all looks so pretty and makes me want it 🙂

There are a lot of worse things you could be addicted to, right?

My first job was in a drug store and I spent almost every penny at the make-up counter. That early overdose must be why I’m such a slug about it today.

    Hi oh fragrant one!!! 🙂

I have gents antiperspirants and a precious gift off my mum: Gucci Envy boxed set including soap, antiperspirant stick and perfume which I wear to church and other important functions!

Needless to say I feel a lot more confident when I don’t smell like a pair of overused boxers!!! LoL!!!

Amazing what we are beginning to do these days with gents smelly stuff and moisturising body washes!!! 🙂

    Love and sweet smelling hugs!!!

    Prenin.

I’m a cosmetics fiend, as well! I also have a small salon’s worth of hair products. It’s so much fun being a girl! I like your posts, they’re fun–especially the Beatle’s birthday–my hubby would love that! Have a great day! 🙂

At least it’s not a jewlery addiction – that one could get VERY expensive! I always question the self-life of cosmetics. I’ll find something in a drawer that I haven’t used for a while and wonder if it should be kept or tossed. There’s only so many days in a row that a girl can wear green nail polish and get away with it. That bottle will only be used once/year, on March 17.

Your post resonates with me big time. I too was a Clarins girl. And a Chanel girl, and an YSL girl. You name it, I owned it. Now I’m lucky if I can buy L’oreal. With a mortgage comes big responsibilities and so I go without my nice cosmetics and like you, wear the good stuff when I get them as gifts or indulge when I get cash gifts. On the bright side, we do have those free samples from time to time that allow us to remember the good times we had and quite possibly will soon have again. Keep the faith, my sister!

I would have never understood this if I hadn’t gotten a make-up lesson right before I got married. I adore Too Faced and Bareminerals now. I had nooo idea make-up could do all that it does. And I loooove Elizabeth Arden lotions. 🙂

Well, I don’t wear much make-up and am not in to all the smelly products, although I do enjoy lavendar body spray.

However, I love your sense of humor. And I enjoyed you and all the commenters’ statements on how you all enjoy being a girl…well, except for prenin 😛
