So the new track from Lady Gaga came out recently, and you can’t escape from the hype that it has caused. Twitter, Facebook and Yahoo Buzz are reporting her ranking in their top ten trends of the day, and every station you switch to on the radio had people talking about it. Is she the next Madonna? Does it sound like Express Yourself? Is it the best one she has released to date? Who cares.
Why do people love her so much? Yes, she produced catchy pop songs that perforate the radio stations and get stuck in your head like an elastic band in the Hoover, but what about her makes her so amazing?
I cannot understand the hype around her. Some people are just fame hungry and anyone who wears a dress made entirely out of slices of meat falls into that pool in my opinion.
But is she a microcosm of how the rest of the world operates? Is it true to an extent that the wilder and more outrageous you seem, the more liked and noticed you are?
The worrying fact is that is true. It’s always the cheerleaders and singers that are popular in schools; the girls that throw themselves out there and make a lot of noise. I went to my cousins graduation from eight grade last summer, and was suddenly immersed in a situation I hadn’t been in for half a decade; awkward looking boys in suits and girls in their prom dresses, all eagerly awaiting their results. And you could clearly see the divide. Some girls wore pretty dresses and small heels; a dash of makeup to accentuate their pretty features and a massive smile. But the others, the potential Gaga’s and Beyonce’s of the crowd wore dresses where you could see cheek and makeup that Dame Edna would baulk at.
But what these girls need to remember is that the majority of them are just late bloomers. Sure, some of them will end up being complete swamp donkeys* but the rest of them will enter their twenties looking amazing and wonder what all the fuss is about. And you’ll know exactly what I mean if you were the one with the braces, or the glasses, or the nose stuck in a book wanting to disappear. Or all three!
I have however, had a listen to it and it is completely interchangeable with Madonna. I think ill just stick to my firm favourites; The Beach Boys, Bananarama, White Lies and Rihanna. Yep, I know, I’m far too cool for my own good!
(*managed to sneak the swamp donkey reference in, promised I would!!!)
